Sunday & Monday

I didn’t get any exercise yesterday because I decided that resting my ankle was the better idea. As a direct result it was a beautiful sunny (freezing cold) day, and I found it very frustrating not to be out there walking... ah well, I still think it was the right thing to do as my ankle does feel much better today. I handed in my final assessment to the OU yesterday so until I decide to start another module my lunchtimes are my own again, so at least missing out on walking yesterday doesn't mean no walking till next weekend.
I went on the elliptical this morning. It's the first time I've talked myself into it when really not in the mood and I finished the full 40 minute program, so I'm quite pleased at that! I then went for a freezing 50 minute walk around Bristol in my lunch break, so I've been quite active today!

Food yesterday:
Breakfast: All bran with fruit and a protein waffle with raspberry coulis

Lunch: Green lentil soup with lite bread & LC

Dinner: Pizza and salad. I designed my own pizza on the Dominos website then added a few more toppings after it was delivered.

Snacks: Greek yoghurt with blueberries; quite a lot of nut butter and almonds; my first smoothie in a bowl for weeks.

Food today:

Breakfast: bowl of all bran & fruit and 2 slices multigrain toast at work

Lunch: Curried cauliflower soup, lite bread & LC plus a mini salad because the soup was crappy and a bronkie (half brownie half cookie) to celebrate having a walk at lunchtime.

Dinner: Sausage casserole with shirataki noodles & vergetables

Just Slap Me

I’m been kind of stupid today! Not that much of a surprise, as even I can tell I seem to be suffering from impaired judgement these days! I went for a long walk into Chepstow this morning. It was freezing cold, but I was too stubborn to come back to get my hat. By the time I reached the town I also had a bad ankle – but while a sane person would have taken a bus or taxi to get home, I just bought an ankle support and limped hobbled 4 miles on a dodgy ankle…. yep, I’m real smart right now….

Yesterday I wasn’t too bad, I trained in the morning and ate reasonably most of the day (apart from some nut butter and almonds in the evening) but I didn’t feel at all well in the afternoon, hence not posting last night. I’m trying not to post more whinges every day, but it seems at the moment the only way I can achieve that is not to post each day…. sorry for being a miserable bitch!

Food yesterday:

Breakfast: All bran with fruit, topped with natural yoghurt

Lunch: 250 cal egg salad sandwich

Dinner: Quorn cottage pie with green beans, tenderstem broccoli, sweetcorn and peas steam fried with a little dried chilli.

Snacks: 2 slices Latvian rye sourdough bread with LC; a babybel cheese; an orange; a bottle of protein water.

Food today:

Breakfast: Oat & wheat bran cooked in water with a pinch of salt, then mixed with chocolate orange whey.

Dinner: Pumpkin-4 cheese macaroni and cheese with salad – I halved the pasta and replaced it with broccoli, cauliflower and leek.

Another Twofer

Yesterday wasn't much fun, I was tired and down all day, & in bed before 7pm. I hadn't trained and didn't walk and just wanted to be alone to feel sorry for myself. However I quite enjoyed it and felt much better this morning! I did train this morning, and felt like I was working a bit harder, sweating more etc. I really should remember on days that start off badly, that I do feel better after training, however little I want to.

Food Wednesday:

Breakfast: bowl of all bran & fruit

Lunch: Salad from canteen salad bar with white petit pain & half a pat of butter followed by a pack of Go Ahead orange & sultana biscuits (should have had home-made black bean soup, but just couldn’t face it)

Dinner: Quorn mince Bolognese stuffed acorn squash and salad (I only managed two thirds of the stuffed squash as it was huge – but I really wanted lots of fibre!) and some kale chips

Tuesday

I managed to ellipticize again this morning - and the maddening squeak was back. It doesn't seem to like me using it on two or more consecutive mornings... I fought through this time as the squeaking wasn't as loud as last time but I think I'll have to leave it tomorrow.
I'm tired again today, and have another headache. Headaches are a common side effect of my antidepressants and I've had a LOT the last couple of months after years of having them very rarely. I did take a capsule this morning as I'm giving them up gradually rather than going cold turkey.

Food today:

Breakfast: bowl of all bran & fruit; 2 slices planned multigrain toast (still better than a muffin / Danish, right?)

Lunch: Slow-cooker vegetable soup with a few added meatballs

Dinner: Slow-cooker pulled pork with sauerkraut, served as the topping for a sweet potato and a salad (yes, there really is a sweet potato under the meat!!!)

Monday again

I managed to fit in an elliptical session yesterday morning, though I felt very blah and can't say I think it was a good workout (my own fault - I drank a bit yesterday, not a great deal but enough to feel sub-par - and I stayed up a bit too late as well). I'm having some issues with the antidepressants I've been taking lately, and don't think they agree with me as well as it looked in the beginning, so I'm planning to wean myself off them, though I haven't yet decided if I want to ask the doctor for an alternative to try. I didn’t take one yesterday, as I’m cutting down to one every other day at first, and I must admit I felt a bit strange all day – very tired, a little headachy, and definitely a bit dislocated from what was going on around me!

Food today:

Breakfast: bowl of all bran & fruit; 2 slices unplanned multigrain toast (better than a muffin / Danish, right?)

Lunch: Slow cooker corn chowder and a sandwich of lite wholemeal bread and LC .

Dinner: a vegetable curry (ready meal bought a while back that needs eating up) and brown rice with some home-made Algerian flat bread and salad veg

Weekend

Friday was an OK day except that I didn’t get any exercise – gym or walking. I wasn’t feeling my best (strangely bloated and tired all day) and wasn’t in the greatest mood, so I fell into bed early instead of blogging – sorry guys!

Yesterday was better. I managed to fit in a walk into town and enjoyed it despite sub-zero temperatures. However, after planning a ‘breakfast like a king’ kind of day I ended up being tempted into a pizza for dinner – oops! But yummy….

This morning I was planning to walk into Chepstow but decided it was possibly a bad idea given that I’ve had some uncomfortable ankle issues lately. Of course I didn’t go so far as to not walk, but I just went for the short 4mile walk rather than the nearly ten-mile walk – and by the time I got home I was very very glad I’d done so. The temperature was up to 8 degrees; the ground was sloppy and slippery and walking was a bit harder work, so my ankle did start protesting vociferously, and I was very glad to get into my comfy slippers when I got home!

Snacks: On Friday I had a second breakfast of fruit salad with Greek yoghurt and some mixed cereals; yesterday I went with a pack of salt and vinegar Snack-a-Jack mini rice cakes on my walk. Today I went for a small bowl of All bran with peaches and a Vanilla Honeycomb protein bar.

Thursday

I managed to get myself into the gym again today! I had meant to just use the elliptical, but it’s developed a truly maddening squealing noise so after 20 minutes I switched to the stationary bike for another 25 minutes.
Didn't feel the urge to binge today even though I was quite hungry this morning - maybe the exercise is finally starting to make me want healthier foods!

Food today:

Breakfast: a blend of plain organic rolled oats and oatbran cooked with Soya milk and then mixed with toffee fudge flavoured whey – tasted a great deal more delicious than it looked!

Hmph

I was so tired yesterday all day I decided to take a gym rest day today and just go for a walk at lunchtime. (I have been using my lunch breaks to work on the assignment for my OU course – it isn’t finished, but I didn’t feel like it would go well today) I meant to walk for 50 minutes but it stretched to an hour of brisk walking, so it was good! I did an enormous circuit of the Harbourside area of Bristol, in bright but very cold sunshine. Less good though was the bit when I came back to the office, feeling strangely wobbly, and had another mini binge. This is not good…. I don’t know what’s wrong with me at the moment. Crying face

Food today:

Breakfast: 2 pumpkin oat waffles with cottage cheese, peaches & blueberries

Dinner: Punjabi beans converted into a spicy bean soup, with a bowl of kale chips.

So tired

6 for 6! 40 minutes on the elliptical walker first thing in the morning (Tuesday) again and soon I think I'll be ready to start mixing things up a bit. I'd like to reintroduce press ups, chin ups and planks for a start, I haven't done them since before we went to San Francisco last year (if I'm completely honest I'd like to be a bit lighter before doing chin ups as I've had some shoulder pain off and on for the last few weeks & don't want to damage anything.)
I had real trouble staying awake this morning - never good at work!!! I had to buy an extra Americano coffee, and it took a great deal of effort to resist the brownies and muffins on sale at the Starbucks franchise... sadly the caffeine was not enough, and later I resorted to a sugar boost...

Food today:

Breakfast: massive bowl of All bran with blueberries & peaches.

Lunch: Chicken and vegetable soup and a sandwich of lite wholemeal bread and LC .

Dinner: Wild boar stew & vegetables.

Another week begins…

And I’m now 5 for 5!!! 40 minutes on the elliptical walker first thing in the morning and its starting to feel like I'm on a bit of a roll!
I am definitely feeling generally better just now, though still missing the long walks. With any luck the weather will improve enough to allow lunchtime walks before long.

Food today:

Breakfast: massive bowl of All bran with a container of prepared fruit salad from Waitrose.

Lunch: Vegetable soup with a few Swedish meatballs added and a sandwich of lite wholemeal bread and LC . The soup looked foul but luckily tasted better!

Dinner: Quorn cottage pie & vegetables.

Weekend ramblings

Sorry I didn’t post yesterday, I was distracted! M’s mother and father took us out for a lunch at a great local Indian restaurant, and after that I fell into relaxation mode a bit. I do confess that in the morning, knowing that was coming, I started out planning to eat as healthily as possible and ended up bingeing somewhat on my mini rum cakes (that had been nestling in the freezer since before Christmas) in anticipation, and when it came to the lunch I resisted poppadoms & a starter, but had a lamb curry (with plain rice, not pilau / fried) with a rich sauce, followed by a dessert…

Since I last posted I’ve watched 3 movies I thought I’d mention… On Friday evening we watched The Book of Eli, yesterday we saw Sex & The City 2, and this afternoon, well after everyone else alive, we saw The Blind Side.

I enjoyed them all, though obviously for very different reasons. Eli was well written, well-acted, starred Denzel Washington (need I say more?) and was kind of depressing… OK, a positive spin at the end, but you can’t call it a feel-good movie. Sex and the City I had very very low expectations of after all the panning they got from the critics, but it was enjoyable rubbish and I think the critics were taking it way too seriously… but best of the three was The Blind Side. I added it to our Lovefilm rental list after reading a few positive reviews on blogs. I don’t know anything about American football and have no interest in sport of any kind, but I do like Sandra Bullock… even so, I more than half expected to turn it off after half an hour as ‘just not my thing’ Loved, loved, loved, loved, loved it!!! What a great cast!!! What a great message! What an amazing story (and the fact that it was based on a true story makes it even better!) I loved the guy playing Michael to bits, and spent the whole movie annoyingly repeating ‘he’s lovely’, ‘he’s adorable’ and similarly inane comments. I’m still smiling Winking smile

I didn’t use the gym today or yesterday because the rain held off, and you all know that when that happens, the fields and roads around me become my gym Winking smile. However my plan wasn’t to gym it every day, but to be active every day, so the walk I took yesterday after lunch, and the one this morning, mean I’m now 4 for 4!!! (BTW, feel sorry for the teenagers around me… As I walked to town along a damp abandoned railway yesterday I saw a young couple reclining on the side of the cutting, in the mud, to be alone…… awww, sweet!!!)

Food Saturday:

Breakfast: Pumpkin-oat waffle with cottage cheese (it went brown when I mixed in a huge dollop of unsweetened apple sauce, so don’t go thinking I eat mouldy cheese) & blueberries'.P1100063

Dinner: Eventually I had a bowl of slow cooker corn chowder and a slice of Latvian bread, just because it was possible I might wake up hungry in the middle of the night.

Breakfast: 1 pumpkin oat waffle, one cottage cheese waffle, with fat free Greek yoghurt and blueberries, spread with a little more apple sauce & sprinkled with seeds.

TGIF

2 for 2!!! 10 minutes on the bike, 30 on the elliptical walker first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. And already I feel so much better that I can't believe I didn't want to do this at the beginning of the week (I'm not kidding myself that that won't probably happen again real soon mind you!)
The only downside is that I've been really hungry all morning. I don't want to eat junk like I do when I'm not exercising, but I had eaten all my morning snack, half my afternoon snack, and my lunchtime sandwich by 10:30am...
I knew it wasn't thirst after drinking 3 venti green teas from Starbucks, 1 litre of sparkling water and half a bottle of protein water (it comes in a 500ml bottle) plus 2 cups of coffee before leaving home and about 400ml still water while training... I should be awash!!! So I settled for buying a small salad, ate that & my soup, then felt stuffed!!!

Food today:

Breakfast: massive bowl of All bran with blueberries and peaches

Lunch: Green lentil & vegetable soup and a sandwich of seeded wholemeal bread, LC & cucumber; small salad

Dinner: Tofu, stir fried vegetables & shirataki noodles.

I feel good...
For a heffalump, that is! I finally hit the gym this morning for 40 minutes on the elliptical walker. 3 cheers for me!!! Now I just need to build up some momentum...

Wednesday

Forget what I said about maybe changing my happy weight to my current level. I feel huge right now and there's no way I want to stay this way. Unfortunately I think winter is inspiring my body to enter hibernation - it wants no exercise and lots of eating! I will overcome it though.. Somehow..

Food today:

Breakfast: massive bowl of oats (Oatso Simple Winter Pudding flavour) with whey & psyllium husks.

Lunch: I decided to experiment with bringing hot soup in a flask - chicken & vegetable. It stayed hot but was rubbish - I must have left in the freezer for too long - so I picked out a few edible bits, binned the rest & bought a 250cal chicken salad sandwich from the canteen at work.

Dinner: More soup – chicken & vegetable again - with added protein (and flavour!) in the form of sausage casserole.  Much better!!!

Tuesday

I binged a little after posting yesterday - not massively, but enough to be annoying & depressing, maybe 1000 calories over weight-loss allowance. I think its at least partly frustration at having been extremely constipated for days and days again, so last night I resorted to medication & therefore started the day with stomach ache. And other unpleasant things.

Ah well, today is another day... and a day when my mum and her OH are visiting me! This time we ate in to be healthier and more controlled.

Food today:
Breakfast: a pumpkin-oat waffle with Greek yoghurt and summer fruit

Lunch: Cous cous salad with spicy marinated cheese and pomegranate seeds (a bit bland - the pomegranate seeds were the best bit!)

Dinner: Fried rice with peppers, peas, corn, onion & mushrooms, plus chicken & prawns (sorry – forgot to take a photo)

Followed by a cheats bread & butter pudding - raisin bread soaked overnight in low fat custard then baked. It was so soft it fell apart when I served it, and delicious!!!
